Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML) is seeking to appoint a Marine Ecosystem Modeller. PML is recognised internationally as a dynamic, highly innovative, independent and impartial deliverer of scientific research and advice on the marine environment.

PML is looking to appoint a Modeller to develop, apply and evaluate marine ecosystem models, primarily focussing on the benthic components. The work will form part of a number of projects, investigating response to ocean acidification and developing a risk assessment of carbon capture and storage. You will develop existing models in terms of the response of biochemical and ecological processes to different environmental drivers, liaising with experimental scientists, other modellers and using published literature to underpin formulations.

In addition you will evaluate simulations using sophisticated metrics, present results to a variety of stakeholders and publish results in the peer reviewed literature. The research is predominantly focussed on the NW European Continental Shelf Seas, but other shelf seas are likely to feature in the research. The model is principally coded in FORTRAN running on Linux platforms.

Eligibility:

Experience in modelling, oceanography, marine biogeochemistry and/or ecology would provide an appropriate background.
